AIoT Innovations Lab

The AIoT Innovations Lab, developed by DigiToad Technologies in collaboration with STMicroelectronics, is a complete academic and research platform that bridges Artificial Intelligence and the Internet of Things. It enables students and faculty to design, build, and deploy intelligent IoT systems using real-world sensor data, machine learning, and cloud connectivity. The lab is centered around the BL4 Series AIoT Developer Kit, which combines sensing, connectivity, and processing into one compact platform. It includes on-board motion, environmental, and audio sensors, along with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and NFC interfaces, allowing seamless device-to-cloud communication. Using the ST Edge AI Suite — including NanoEdge AI Studio and STM32Cube.AI — learners can develop, train, and deploy AI models directly on the hardware. The platform supports end-to-end experimentation: from collecting sensor data and training models to real-time inference and cloud visualization. The AIoT Innovations Lab also integrates with cloud tools like Node-RED, AWS IoT, and Adafruit IO, enabling users to create dashboards for live data monitoring and predictive analytics. These experiments help students gain a deep understanding of IoT communication protocols such as MQTT and HTTP while working with real devices. To support academia, DigiToad provides curriculum materials, virtual lab access, certification programs, and faculty development workshops, ensuring a smooth and scalable adoption in universities and technical institutions.
