The IIoT Innovations Lab brings the factory floor into the classroom, giving students a genuine feel for how AI and industrial systems work together. Built around the STM32 wireless industrial node and the ST Edge AI Suite, the lab lets learners capture real vibration, temperature, and acoustic data from industrial-grade sensors, then use that data to train and deploy their own machine learning models - the same workflow used by engineers solving real problems in manufacturing plants today.
Rather than working with simulated datasets, students follow the complete Edge AI development cycle: setting up projects in STM32CubeIDE, selecting signals, training models with NanoEdge AI Studio and STM32Cube.AI, and then optimizing and deploying those models onto embedded hardware. Along the way, they build practical skills in anomaly detection, multi-class classification, and regression modeling - the core techniques behind predictive maintenance, condition monitoring, and structural health assessment in industrial settings.
By combining industrial-grade hardware with an industry-standard AI toolchain, the IIoT Innovations Lab prepares students and faculty to move beyond traditional embedded systems and into the design of intelligent, AI-enabled industrial systems - while opening doors to cross-disciplinary research and Industry 4.0-aligned innovation.
